Morgan State University

Health & Human Services Center

In the fall of 2024, Morgan State University unveiled their 208,000 square-foot, six-story Health and Human Services Center (HHSC) outfitted with advanced technologies and modern amenities. Located at the southern entrance of the University’s Main Campus, the Health and Human Services Center is the new home for the University’s School of Community Health and Policy and School of Social Work, the University Counseling Center and Prevention Sciences Research Center, and the School of Education and Urban Studies’ Family and Consumer Sciences Department. Spanning across six floors are seven PBL counseling rooms, a lecture hall, eight smart classrooms, 11 small group study rooms, 10 conference rooms, and a plethora of labs dedicated to various sciences.

Design & Integration (DI) outfitted the entire building with cutting-edge audiovisual systems, including a striking 136” Planar LED video wall in the atrium. Paired with QSC column speakers, this dynamic display showcases branded welcome graphics created by DI’s content division, along with promotional materials from internal departments. Additionally, the Chue Meeting Room features a stunning 1.5mm, 5.5’ x 19.6’ Planar video wall, and the Dean’s Conference Room features a Planar 1.2mm 7.9’x4’ Video Wall.  All systems are seamlessly integrated with a Crestron control system, offering a custom-designed user interface on 10” touchscreens located throughout the building for effortless operation.

A standout feature of the HHSC Building is its state-of-the-art simulation control rooms, each equipped with Simulation Manikins and a 24” ViewSonic Interactive LCD monitor to display imitated patient vitals. In the adjoining observation rooms, spectators can provide feedback and simulate patient sounds using a sophisticated audio setup that includes Bose Satellite loudspeakers, Shure hanging mini-condenser cardioid microphones, and Shure wireless microphones. Each control room is connected to a debriefing room, fostering in-depth discussion and analysis. All medical simulations and data are securely stored and managed through the CAE LearningSpace platform, ensuring an advanced and efficient training experience.

The Advanced Health Labs provide students with a fully equipped environment for preparation and hands-on practice. Each lab features lecterns integrated with advanced teaching tools, including a Wacom 24” interactive multi-touch pen display and an Elmo 4K document camera. These systems are incorporated into most classrooms, labs, and the divisible Community Outreach Meeting Room, alongside Vaddio PTZ cameras, high-definition digital displays, and projection screen systems, providing a dynamic and immersive learning experience.

The Conference Rooms are outfitted with Crestron AirMedia and an all-in-one Crestron soundbar, camera, and microphone system. These advanced solutions enable wireless connectivity, allowing users to easily integrate their own devices for soft-codec conferencing.

The Technology Visualization Labs are equipped with Da-Lite 159” projection screens and a Christie 7,000 ANSI Lumens Projector, delivering an immersive 3D projection experience. Designed for maximum flexibility, the space includes movable partition walls that enable limitless room configurations. Additionally, Portable NVX encoders provide HDMI inputs at multiple locations, ensuring seamless connectivity and adaptability for a wide range of applications.
