School of Nursing

The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing’s (JHSON) newly renovated Pinkard Building is a stunning example of how a well-designed audiovisual system can improve students’ learning experiences in a hybrid structure. The objective was to elevate JHSON’s central learning and workspaces to environments conducive to collaboration, inspiration, and innovation.

Design & Integration (DI) was responsible for installing a state-of-the-art audiovisual system throughout the facility. The 66,000 square foot expansion added 11 classrooms, 21 meeting spaces, a conference center, a two-story study cube, and more to the Pinkard Building. DI expertly designed each area to enhance the learning and collaboration experience of participants both on and off-campus.

The expansive video wall built by DI is the major highlight of JHSON’s new lobby. The 20′ by 7.5′ display greets visitors with brilliant visual messages. A custom-built Datapath Video Processor drives the array of narrow bezel Planar LCD panels.

The audiovisual system DI installed in the classrooms allows each lecture to be viewed remotely in high quality. Sony PTZ cameras allow focusing on presenters, panelists, and whiteboards, delivering outstanding visual clarity. SonicFoundry MediaSite lecture capturers enable students to re-watch each lecture after class, allowing them to be more engaged in the classroom. Autofocus technology in the Shure MXA 910 ceiling-mounted beamforming microphones detects and delivers consistent sound levels to online viewers while the speaker moves around.

DI outfitted each meeting room space with technology that enhances the collaborative process. Each room has a Creston room scheduling panel that makes the process of finding and booking a meeting space intuitive and straightforward. Samsung interactive displays with built-in whiteboards create a sketchable workspace equipped with an interactive document viewer and embedded web browser.

Design & Integration’s turnkey audiovisual system equips the Nation’s No. 1 Graduate School of Nursing with the ability to provide an immersive learning environment for their students in the classroom and at home.
