Bowie State University
Martin Luther King, Jr. Center
Bowie State University recently unveiled its new 192,000-square-foot Communication Arts & Humanities building, named in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This state-of-the-art facility is home to the Departments of Communications, History and Government, Language, Literature and Cultural Studies, and Military Science (ROTC).
Designed to foster innovation and collaboration, the building features a wide array of advanced spaces including a 1,500-seat auditorium, 31 classrooms, 19 conference rooms, as well as a Broadcast & Radio Wing. DI was proud to equip the facility with cutting-edge audiovisual systems, robust security infrastructure, and comprehensive structured cabling—ensuring a high-tech learning environment for students and faculty alike.
One of the standout features of the building is the innovative Broadcast & Radio Wing, which includes TV studios, radio studios, dedicated podcast rooms, and fully equipped TV control rooms. DI integrated advanced technologies throughout the space, including Ross Video Xpression Graphics Processors, Media IO Playback Servers, Ultrix Video Routers, and Panasonic AK-UC3000GSJ 4K Studio Cameras.
Real time communication across the auditorium and Broadcast & Radio wing is driven by Riedel’s ARTIST Intercom platform. Featuring over 26 rack mounted SmartPanels and numerous Bolero wireless beltpacks, students and production staff can seamlessly communicate with one another across a large venue. DI also provided TBC production consoles and outfitted the suites and other areas of the building with custom furniture designed to enhance both functionality and aesthetics.
Technology from the Broadcast & Radio Wing extends into the auditorium and back-of-house areas, creating seamless integration across the building. The auditorium serves as beautiful performance venue enabled by the L-Acoustics A Series Line Array Speakers, K Series Subwoofers, & Christie’s WU31 28,000 Lumen Laser Projector. Designed for versatility, the auditorium easily transitions from a traditional classroom setup to a fully equipped venue for live productions and events.
